Coronavirus update: 4 new cases reported, India now has 43 COVID-19 patients

  • India has so far not reported any deaths due to coronavirus
  • Most of the new coronavirus cases are those with a travel history to Italy

NEW DELHI : As four more positive cases of coronavirus were reported from India today, the total number of COVID-19 patients in the country went up to 43. A report from Kerala said a three-year-old child who flew down to Cochin International Airport on March 7 from Italy tested positive for the virus. The child’s parents are also being tested now.

  • According to another report from Agra, the number of coronavirus cases has gone up to 6 in Uttar Pradesh after a factory worker who came in contact with the coronavirus positive businessman from Agra tested positive. Earlier, six members from the businessman’s family were admitted to the Safdarjung hospital in New Delhi and five of them had tested positive.
  • Health authorities have already screened more than 150 persons who came in contact with the Agra businessman. Delhi reported another confirmed case today.
  • In the meantime, Jammu and Kashmir reported its first coronavirus case today as a 63-year-old woman, who came back from Iran recently, was tested positive.
  • Kerala was the first state in India to have reported coronavirus cases when three patients, who returned from Wuhan in January, were found infected. The three patients have since then been discharged after recovery. Yesterday, another five cases were reported from the southern state. All of them had travelled to Italy recently. The Kerala government has now issued a warning against those hiding travel history to affected nations.

The union health ministry has clarified that the man, who died in a hospital isolation ward in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district on Sunday, tested negative for coronavirus. He was admitted there with suspected symptoms of COVID-19 following his return from Saudi Arabia
